Just as I finished updating the STL Concert Calendar The Billiken Club announced another show. Seattle threesome The Cave Singers will bring their brand of intimate indie-folk to The Billiken Club on March 23rd. The band was Born out of the unlikely ashes of Pretty Girls Make Graves, Hint Hint, Cobra High, and Murder City Devils.
None of the guys ever listened to much folk, nor did they intend to play it, but somehow the folk came to them. At first glance you might question the sincerity, were they just hopping on the surprisingly full indie-folk train? Yet you can’t help but hear the intimacy and feeling in these songs, they find a way to transport you to an old back porch, with nothing but a campfire to keep you entertained. Who knows if the shift from the Seattle punk scene to southern Americana was bullshit or genuine, and who really cares?
