King Baldwin

King Baldwin make hauntingly beautiful and deviously twisted pop tunes that will nest in your brain until…well 2012 (damn Mayan calendar).  Lead singer and songwriter Alexander Eccles is a classically trained pianist, drawn into the world of rock by his younger brother Jon, who gave him a copy of David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.  It was over for Eccles after that, pursuing the rock and roll dream with his brother Jon as part of Dubious Ranger.  While Dubious Ranger earned quite the following in San Fran they have since parted ways.

In the meantime Alexander Eccles has become a bit of a YouTube celebrity with his renditions of Super Castlevania IV classics dressed as non other than King Baldwin.  The videos may not have provided any more inspiration for the new tunes than a name, but they are entertaining in their own right.

The self-titled debut album from King Baldwin will be released on February 2 on the nothingroom.  The album is streaming now and can be downloaded using a pay-what-you-want pricing structure.  Take a listen to “When The Morning Comes” from the EP:
