There’s been a few exciting concert announcements lately and a couple major misses, so lets dig in.  First off I’ve lived in Saint Louis for over four years and I have yet to see the great Chuck Berry  perform.  It seems like every time I realize I should check out his show at Blueberry Hill it’s sold out.  The Pageant just announced that Chuck will be playing a special all-ages show on Saturday, March 27 (tickets go on sale this Friday at 5pm).  I figure this is my chance to see the legend and introduce myself to a  bit of Saint Louis’ musical history, here’s hoping I can nab a few tickets.

The holidays are over, which means all of the boys and girls have to go back to school and The Billiken Club will be starting up its Spring season.  I’m already chomping at the bit to see Via Audio (Thursday, March 4) at The Billiken Club and now I can add Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin to the list.  The Billiken Club is one of my favorite venues in the city, with free shows and good beer prices you can’t go wrong.  Come Wednesday, January 27 I will be hunkered down enjoying Springfield’s own SSLYBY.  If you can’t get enough SSLYBY head on over to Mojo’s in Columbia on January 30.

It’s not all coming up roses in the STL though.  Despite drawing a good crowd the last time they played St. Louis Vampire Weekend are bypassing the Lou as they tour in support of Contra.  I can’t say as I’m surprised, after all this type of thing happens again and again – but it still pisses me off.  Wilco is also snubbing St. Louis.  I know they played Farm Aid, but a six song set didn’t come close to doing them justice.  Hopefully they will make their way home again at some point this year.
