I didn’t post this video right away because it pains me to do it.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s another great performance from what is probably the best band alive.  The thing is I was going to see Wilco in Madison, WI next month, but forces have conspired against me.  As a result the tickets [...]

Say Hey To: Fredrik

29, Jan 2010

When you write a music blog no matter how big or small you get a lot of music sent your way.  There are a lot of small boutique PR firms out there specializing in social media and their job is to get a band’s name out there.  That means that every day I pass up tunes [...]

During these hard economic times music lovers need free shows.  There’s just no getting around it.  Sure there are plenty of shows I want to catch at The Pageant, but I have to pick and choose.  That’s why places like The Billiken Club are so great.  You have the opportunity to experience national touring acts [...]

One of my favorite local bands (Springfield, MO) is playing The Billiken Club tonight at 9pm (1/27 – free show).  Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin play some of the best Indie-Pop around and they always put on a fun show.  To call them a local band may imply that they have yet to “make it”, but nothing could [...]

New Releases V1.26

26, Jan 2010

2010 hasn’t been around all that long, but so far it’s knee deep in good new music.  Today Baltimore’s Beach House releases Teen Dream, their third LP, which features the frighteningly beautiful “Norway”.  I say frightening because half the time when I listen to the song I think it’s scary and completely awful.  I say beautiful because [...]

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for a sweaty mess of a dance party.  I missed Chicago mash-up masters The Hood Internet when they played the Playback: stl Music Festival, but they are coming back for more.  The Hood Internet along with DJ Clockwork (London Calling) and AutioMadic will be playing The Gramophone [...]

Hey St. Louis I know Vampire Weekend is too important for you, Jeff Tweedy said he was from Chicago, and St. Vincent forgot where you were this time around, but not all is lost.  There are still people out there that truly care about you, that can actually point you out on a map – even if [...]

I’ve been trying to convince myself that Weezer didn’t release Raditude, it was all just one horrible nightmare.  They sure as hell didn’t write a song called “In the Mall”, simply not possible.  Despite my denial I’ve heard evidence that the album does indeed exist and I even know a few people that enjoy the [...]

Recently I haven’t been able to get enough of The Low Anthem.  After releasing their album Oh My God, Charlie Darwin on their own in 2008 Nonesuch Records picked it up and released it to a much-deserved wider audience in 2009.  The Low Anthem have been popping up all over the place lately, including an appearance on the NPR Tiny [...]

Yesterday marked the release of Transference, Spoon’s excellent new album.  Spoon stopped by Conan last night to play “Written In Reverse”and blow every one’s mind.  Last night’s performance wouldn’t be complete without Conan taking another jab at the peacock.  Enjoy:
